Privacy Policy
This policy describes exactly what WebcamTest.com does and does not do with your data. It is written to be specific rather than reassuring, because a vague privacy policy is worth very little.
Your camera and microphone streams never leave your device
This is the central point. Every diagnostic on this site — the quality scoring, the audio-video sync measurement, the background-blur analysis, the low-light benchmark, the OCR privacy scan, all of it — runs inside your own browser using your device's processor. Your video and audio are never transmitted to us, never stored on a server, and never seen by anyone but you.
There is no upload step because there is nothing to upload. If you disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded, most tools continue to work.
Itemised description of data processed
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 require that a notice give an itemised account of the data processed, the purpose of processing, and the service each item enables — rather than a general assurance. The following table is that itemisation. It is exhaustive: if something is not listed here, we do not process it.

What is stored on your device
As itemised above, several tools save small values in your browser's local storage so your settings survive a page refresh. This never reaches us. You can erase all of it at any time by clearing your browser's site data, or via the "Clear History" control on the dashboard.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage — which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are located, and which browsers are used. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes this data on Google's own infrastructure under Google's privacy policy. It does not receive your video, your audio, or your test results.
If you prefer not to be measured, standard browser privacy settings, tracking-protection features, and ad blockers all block this successfully — the diagnostic tools themselves continue to work normally without it.
Third-party resources this site loads
For transparency, loading these pages makes requests to a small number of external services. Each of these can see your IP address as a normal consequence of serving a file to your browser:
- Google Fonts — for the site's typefaces.
- jsDelivr (CDN) — delivers the AI libraries used by the background blur, lighting, teleprompter, and privacy-scanner tools.
- Google's model storage — delivers the machine-learning model files themselves.
- Google Analytics — as described above.
These files are downloaded to your device and then run locally. Your camera feed is not sent to any of them.
Shareable links
Some tools can generate a shareable link containing your results. Those results are encoded directly into the URL itself — again, nothing is stored on a server. Anyone you send that link to can read the summary values encoded in it, so treat it as public once shared.
Accounts and contact
There are no user accounts, so there is no name, password, or profile to store. If you email us at hello@webcamtest.com, we will hold that correspondence in order to reply to you.
How long anything is kept
Data saved in your browser's local storage persists until you clear it — we cannot delete it remotely, because we cannot see it. Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics. Email correspondence is kept only for as long as needed to resolve the matter you wrote about, and we do not add correspondents to any mailing list.
Your rights under Indian data protection law
This site is operated from India. It is governed by the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 as operationalised by the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 (notified 13 November 2025 and commencing in phases through May 2027).
Under that framework we act as a Data Fiduciary and you are a Data Principal. Your rights include:
- The right to access a summary of the personal data we process about you and the processing activities undertaken.
- The right to correction, completion, updating and erasure of your personal data.
- The right to grievance redressal through the contact below, before escalating to the Data Protection Board of India.
- The right to nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of your death or incapacity.
In practice, the honest answer to most access requests will be that we hold almost nothing about you. Because the diagnostics never transmit your media and there are no accounts, the only personal data ordinarily associated with an individual is email correspondence you have chosen to send us, plus the pseudonymous analytics identifiers described above. We would rather state that plainly than imply a more elaborate data operation than actually exists.
Children
This service is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and we do not carry out behavioural monitoring or targeted advertising of any kind — there is no advertising on this site at all. If you believe a child's personal data has reached us through correspondence, write to the grievance contact below and we will delete it.
Cross-border processing
The analytics and content-delivery providers named above operate global infrastructure, so the limited technical data they receive — principally IP address and standard request headers — may be processed on servers outside India. Your camera and microphone data is never part of this, because it never leaves your device in the first place.
Disclosure to third parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. There is no advertising on this site. The only disclosures that occur are the ones itemised in the table above — analytics and content delivery — each of which is a processor acting on our behalf or a service delivering a file to your browser.
Beyond that, we would disclose personal data only where compelled by law: in response to a lawful order from a court or a government agency authorised to make one, or where disclosure is required to establish or defend a legal claim. Given that we hold essentially no media and no accounts, the practical scope of any such request is very limited.
Security practices and procedures
Rule 4 of the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 requires us to describe the security practices we follow. Ours are as follows.
The most significant security control on this site is architectural rather than procedural: because camera and microphone data is never transmitted, there is no server-side store of media to breach, exfiltrate, or subpoena. Data that is never collected cannot be leaked. We regard this as a stronger guarantee than any promise about how well we would guard a database.
Beyond that, the site is served over HTTPS so that content cannot be read or tampered with in transit; third-party libraries are loaded from established content delivery networks over encrypted connections; and the tools request camera and microphone access only at the moment you press a start control, never on page load. Email correspondence is held in access-controlled mailboxes.
Personal data breach
In the event of a personal data breach affecting data we hold, we will notify each affected Data Principal and the Data Protection Board of India in the manner and within the timelines prescribed under the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025. The notification will describe the nature and extent of the breach, its likely consequences, the measures taken to mitigate it, and what you can do to protect yourself.
Withdrawing consent
Because there is no account and no login, withdrawing consent is deliberately as easy as giving it — the Rules require that the ease of withdrawal be comparable to the ease of consent, and here it is a single browser action:
- To stop analytics processing: use your browser's tracking-protection settings, a content blocker, or Google's own opt-out. The diagnostics continue to work normally without analytics.
- To erase everything stored locally: clear this site's data in your browser settings, or use the "Clear History" control on the dashboard.
- To stop all processing entirely: close the page. Nothing continues to run in the background.
You may also write to the Grievance Officer below to make any of these requests, or to ask what data is held about you.
Grievance Officer
In accordance with Rule 5(9) of the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, and with the grievance redressal requirements of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the contact details of our Grievance Officer are set out below.
The Grievance Officer will acknowledge your grievance on receipt and will redress it expeditiously, and in any event within one month from the date it is received, as required by Rule 5(9). If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may escalate the matter to the Data Protection Board of India, which is the statutory body established under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 to adjudicate such complaints.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date above will change and the substance of the revision will be reflected in the text rather than buried in a summary. We would encourage you to re-read the itemised table and the analytics section in particular, since those are the parts most likely to change as tooling evolves.
This policy is written to address the disclosure requirements of Rule 4 of the SPDI Rules, 2011 and the notice requirements of Rule 3 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, and accurately describes our technical data handling. It is not legal advice and does not itself constitute a compliance certification. Substantive obligations under the DPDP Act are being brought into force in phases through May 2027; if you require this document formally vetted against a specific provision, please have it reviewed by a qualified professional.
