By using WebcamTest.com you agree to the terms below. They are deliberately short and plain.
What this service is
WebcamTest.com provides free, browser-based diagnostic tools for testing camera and microphone hardware. No account is required and no payment is taken.
What the measurements mean
This matters more here than on most sites, so we state it plainly. The diagnostics on this site are software estimates produced by a web browser, not readings from calibrated laboratory instruments. Browser JavaScript cannot read your CPU temperature, cannot inspect your USB topology, and cannot perform clinical-grade gaze tracking through an ordinary webcam.
Where a figure is a heuristic, the page that produces it says so. Scores are designed for comparing your own setup before and after a change — for example, testing whether moving a lamp improved your lighting — rather than as absolute specifications of your hardware. Please do not rely on them as the sole basis for a purchase, a warranty claim, or any decision with meaningful consequences.
Eligibility to accept these terms
Under Section 11 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, a person must have attained the age of majority — eighteen years, per the Indian Majority Act, 1875 — to enter into a binding contract. By using this site you confirm that you meet that requirement, or that a parent or legal guardian competent to contract has accepted these terms on your behalf and supervises your use.
The service is not directed at children, carries no advertising, and performs no behavioural profiling. Nothing here is designed around a child user, and we would rather say so plainly than rely on a buried age gate.
Acceptable use
Use the site lawfully. Specifically, do not use these tools to record or analyse anyone without their knowledge and consent, and do not attempt to disrupt the service or the experience of other visitors.
You are responsible for what you point your camera at. The privacy-scanning tool in particular is intended to help you spot sensitive information visible in your own background before a call — not to capture anyone else's.
You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site or any system connected to it, introduce malicious code, extract data by automated means beyond ordinary search-engine crawling, or otherwise impair its operation. Conduct of that kind may attract liability under Section 43 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which provides for compensation where a person accesses, damages, disrupts, or causes denial of access to a computer resource without authorisation, and may attract further consequences under other provisions of that Act.
Recording or analysing another identifiable person without their consent may also engage Section 72A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and other applicable law. These tools exist to help you assess your own setup.
Availability and changes
The service is provided as-is, without warranty of uninterrupted availability. Individual tools depend on browser features (such as WebRTC, WebCodecs, WebGL, and WebAssembly) and on third-party libraries delivered by external CDNs; if your browser lacks a feature or a CDN is unreachable, the affected tool will tell you rather than fail silently. Tools may be added, changed, or removed over time.
Intellectual property
The site's design, written guides, and diagnostic implementations are the property of WebcamTest.com. Any images, recordings, or reports you generate using these tools are yours — they are created on your device and we never receive a copy.
You are welcome to link to any page here, quote briefly from our guides with attribution, and share result cards you have generated. You may not republish our written guides wholesale, scrape the site systematically, or present our diagnostic implementations as your own work. If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, write to legal@webcamtest.com with enough detail to identify the work and the page in question, and we will investigate.
Third-party dependencies
Several tools download open-source machine-learning libraries and model files from third-party content delivery networks at the moment you start them. Those resources are governed by their own licences and terms, and we do not control their availability. Where such a resource cannot be reached, the affected tool reports the failure rather than presenting an inaccurate result.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, WebcamTest.com is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from use of this site — including, for example, a call that went badly, a recording that was unusable, or equipment purchased or returned on the strength of a reading shown here. As set out above, these are browser-derived estimates offered in good faith, not certified instrument measurements, and they should be treated as one input among several.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion is not permitted by law.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your misuse of the service, including any use of the recording, capture, or scanning tools to process another person's image or audio without their consent.
Governing law and jurisdiction
This service is operated from India. These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, including the Indian Contract Act, 1872, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules framed under it, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 as operationalised by the Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025. Where you deal with us as a consumer, the protections available to you under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 are unaffected by anything in this document.
Subject to the above, the courts of India shall have jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these terms or your use of the site.
Grievances and legal notice
Legal notices, grievances, data protection requests, and intellectual property complaints should be sent to legal@webcamtest.com. We treat correspondence to that address as formal and route it accordingly. General support questions are better sent to hello@webcamtest.com, where they will be answered faster.
Our Grievance Officer, designated in accordance with Rule 5(9) of the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011, is identified in our Privacy Policy. Grievances are redressed expeditiously and in any event within one month of receipt, as that Rule requires. Where a matter concerns personal data and you remain dissatisfied, you may escalate it to the Data Protection Board of India.
If you deal with us as a consumer, nothing in these terms limits the rights and remedies available to you under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, including recourse to the consumer dispute redressal machinery established under it.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the service changes. The "last updated" date above will reflect any revision, and continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. Where a change is material — for instance, if we ever introduced a paid tier or began collecting data we do not collect today — we would say so explicitly rather than relying on a silent edit.
