These are two quite different cameras sharing a software ecosystem. The HP 960 is a large 4K streaming camera; the Studio P5 is a compact 1080p business webcam.

The HP 960 offers 360-degree swivel and 90-degree tilt plus a 1/4-inch tripod thread, and reviewers note it is unusually large and heavy for a webcam — potentially too heavy for a small laptop lid. The Studio P5 is the opposite: very compact, but with a fixed field of view that cannot be adjusted.

Troubleshooting HP & Poly Issues
1. 4K is not available even on a good connection
The problem: The camera is 4K but you cannot get 4K output in your conferencing app.
The fix: HP documents two separate requirements. The application itself must support 3840 × 2160, and HP specifies a minimum 25Mbps network for 4K streaming. Many conferencing platforms simply do not request 4K regardless of what your camera can supply, so this is often an application limit rather than a fault. The test above shows what the camera can deliver to your browser, which is the cleanest way to separate the two.
2. AI features are missing on a Mac
The problem: Auto-framing, background effects and the adjustable field of view are nowhere to be found.
The fix: The AI features on the HP 960 require downloadable software, and HP specifies Windows 10 or higher as the host requirement. On macOS the camera works and its default colour correction and HDR still apply — HP notes those are on by default and need no software — but auto-framing, background changes and digital zoom are unavailable. Worth knowing before buying if you are a Mac user.
3. You cannot find HP software for an HP webcam
The problem: Searching HP's site for webcam software turns up nothing obvious.
The fix: Because HP acquired Poly, the HP 960 is configured through Poly Lens rather than an HP-branded application, with HP Accessory Center as the alternative route on the Microsoft Store. If you have been looking under HP's own accessory software, that is why you could not find it.

If you use a Mac, plan around the software gap rather than being surprised by it — the cameras function well, but a meaningful part of what you paid for on the HP 960 is Windows-only.
