The C200 has a focal range of roughly 15cm to 3 metres, so it will not focus on something pressed against the lens but handles everything from close-up to standing back from the desk. Its privacy cover is better than most: sliding it across does not merely block the lens, it switches the camera off. The C200 cannot swivel, which is worth knowing if your desk needs an unusual angle.

The problem: The test reports something other than the resolution you thought you bought.

The fix: 2K is a marketing term rather than a precise one, and it is used inconsistently across the industry. In cinema, DCI 2K means 2048 × 1080 — barely more than Full HD. On these Anker cameras it means 2560 × 1440, which is a genuine and worthwhile step up from 1080p. Some retailer listings for the C200 nonetheless state a maximum of 1920 × 1080, which adds to the confusion. The problem: You are stuck at one viewing angle with no way to adjust it.

The fix: The C200's three field-of-view options — 65, 78 and 95 degrees — are only available through the AnkerWork software. Without it installed you are locked to the default. This is the single most worthwhile reason to install the software, because 95 degrees shows a great deal of room that most people do not want in frame.

The problem: Noise is visible even in reasonable light, and fast movement looks slightly smeared.

The fix: Reviewers have consistently noted both traits on the C200 — it is a budget sensor, and this is where the cost saving shows. More light genuinely helps with the noise, since a small sensor amplifies harder in dim conditions. The motion smearing is inherent to the sensor and cannot be corrected by any setting. In exchange, reviewers rate its low-light performance well relative to its price, so the trade is a reasonable one at this end of the market.

One genuine strength of these cameras is the privacy cover: on the C200 it powers the camera down rather than simply obscuring the lens, which is a stronger guarantee than a sticker or a sliding shutter that leaves the sensor running.
